MVQ/VMQ Silicone Sealing O-Rings
Silicone VMQ / MVQ O-Rings For High And Low Temperatures
VMQ / MVQ O-rings are silicone sealing rings suitable for applications where flexibility, temperature stability and resistance to weathering, ozone and UV radiation are important. They are typically used for static sealing, sanitary, heating, service and maintenance or outdoor applications.
Silicone O-rings perform well across a wide temperature range, typically from approximately −50 °C to +175 °C, and short-term up to higher temperatures depending on the specific compound. However, they are not ideal for mineral oils, fuels, strong chemicals and dynamically stressed seals.

Marking and Properties of VMQ / MVQ O-Rings
The designation VMQ / MVQ is used for silicone rubber. In practice, you may encounter both notations; it refers to a silicone elastomer intended for sealing elements where a wide temperature range, flexibility, and ageing resistance are essential.
Marking example: O-ring 46×1.5 VMQ 60
46×1.5 – O-ring internal diameter 46 mm and cross-section/profile thickness 1.5 mm.
VMQ / MVQ – material: silicone rubber.
60 Shore A – material hardness.
O-ring dimensions are commonly specified by the internal diameter and profile thickness. When selecting, it is therefore important to correctly determine both dimensions – internal diameter d1 and cross-section d2.
Key Properties of VMQ / MVQ O-Rings
VMQ / MVQ O-rings are particularly suitable where standard elastomers are insufficient in terms of thermal stability or weather resistance. Silicone retains its flexibility even at low temperatures and is highly resistant to ozone, UV radiation, and outdoor environments.
Typical use
VMQ / MVQ silicone O-rings are primarily used for static applications and seals where temperature resistance, flexibility, and material stability are required.
What to watch out for
VMQ / MVQ O-rings are not a universal replacement for NBR, FKM, or EPDM. Silicone has excellent properties regarding temperature and outdoor environments, but has lower resistance to abrasion, mechanical stress, and certain media.
They are particularly unsuitable for:
mineral oils and lubricants-driving fuels and fuels-high-abrasion applications-dynamically stressed seals-highly concentrated acids or bases.
