FKM O-Rings
FKM O-rings for Higher Temperatures and More Demanding Media
FKM O-rings are fluoroelastomer seals designed for applications where standard materials are insufficient in terms of temperature or chemical resistance. They offer excellent resistance to mineral oils, fuels, lubricants, hydrocarbons, ozone, and ageing.
Thanks to their stable performance at higher operating temperatures, they are suitable for industrial applications, service and maintenance, vacuum technology, pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, and machinery. The typical operating range of FKM is approximately −20 °C to +200 °C, with short-term exposure to higher temperatures depending on the specific compound.

FKM O-rings are not ideal for hot water, steam, extreme cold, ammonia, and certain polar solvents.

Marking and Properties of FKM O-Rings
FKM is the designation for fluoroelastomer rubber. This material is used for seals that must withstand higher temperatures, oils, fuels, lubricants, hydrocarbons, and a range of industrial media over the long term. In practice, FKM is often used where common elastomers such as NBR, EPDM, or VMQ are unsuitable in terms of chemical resistance or thermal stability.
Marking example: O-ring 46×2 FKM 75:
46×2 – O-ring internal diameter 46 mm and cross-section/profile thickness 2 mm.
FKM – fluoroelastomer rubber material.
75 Shore A – material hardness.
O-ring dimensions are typically specified by the internal diameter d1 and the cross-section d2. When selecting, it is important to verify not only the dimension, but also the material, hardness, operating temperature, medium, and type of load.
